McGilvra Card Catalog - pick McGilvra from the Elementary list
The McGilvra School Library is a place where both teaching and learning occur. The emphasis of the curriculum is to help students develop the skills needed to become lifetime library users, readers and information finders. The library provides opportunities for students to seek knowledge, acquire information, and experience the pleasures of the mind. It is a forum where students are encouraged to ask questions and express themselves.
Each classroom comes to the library once a week. Library classes are structured around a theme, a genre or a skill. At the beginning of each year, we spend time discussing the responsibilities and privileges associated with the lending library: how borrowers choose from a large collection and how materials are treated with respect and returned promptly for the next borrower. Library lessons often reinforce or expand upon projects undertaken in the classroom. An effort is made to make connections between classroom and library learning.
Library Hours:
The library is open 8:40- 3:30 Monday through Thursday. Students may visit and use the library before school, during most lunch periods, during afternoon recess, and after school.
