Our intended audience is families that are interested in their children attending McGilvra in the fall of 2010. There will be a presentation in the library, followed by visits to some the classrooms.

Family Bingo Night – McGilvra Gym; Jan. 8 6:30 – 8:30 pm
After we return from winter break be sure to make room on your calendar for family BINGO NIGHT. Your entire family is invited to this fun-filled and exciting event. Play bingo, work on number recognition with your kids, visit with other parents and enjoy pizza, bake sale and plenty of bingo prizes!

McGilvra Book Fair – McGilvra library; Nov. 30 – Dec. 4, during school hours until early evening
The McGilvra Book Fair will be held in the library. Students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair before school, after school and during recesses. Parents can visit anytime during the book fair’s open hours. This is a great time to do some of your holiday shopping and you can shop knowing that you are helping your child’s school. Please come –browse, shop, and support the library! Parent volunteers are essential for a successful book fair.
Holiday Songfest and Annual Fund Kick-Off – McGilvra Gym; Dec. 9, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
This is an opportunity to celebrate the season together and enjoy the great work our students have been doing in music. This evening we also kick off our annual fund request. We hold an annual fund every year in support of raising funds to cover the salaries and benefits of three teachers, as well as all or our enrichment activities our children enjoy at McGilvra. We encourage 100% participation of any size donation.

New Family Dinner – McGilvra lunchroom; Rescheduled Oct. 7 5:30 pm
New families are invited to McGilvra (1st – 5th grade) for dinner at the school where they can meet with other families and become familiar with the school.
Curriculum Night- McGilvra gym and classrooms; Oct. 7; 6:30 – 8:30 pm
It is important for teachers and parents to connect and build understandings of school from a teacher’s perspective: what goes on at school every day, expectations for behavior, homework, and more. Curriculum night offers parents this opportunity by inviting you to visit the classroom and teacher.
Run-A-Thon – McGilvra playground; October 15; 2 pm
The Run-a-thon starts Oct. 2 with an energetic kick-off assembly encouraging students to fill out their pledge forms. There are a lot of opportunities to volunteer as students run laps around McGilvra in an effort to not only raise funds for school programs but also build enthusiasm and unity. Students are joined and cheered on by teachers, friends, family, the McGilvra Wildcat, and sometimes, the Husky cheerleaders, and our neighborhood firemen!
Harvest Dance – McGilvra Gym; Oct. 30; 6:00 – 8:30 pm
This is when McGilvra families come together dressed in costume, share in a potluck snack/dinner, dance in the gym to McGilvra’s Dad Band and get a chance to win one of several prizes in the costume raffle–kids and parents dressed up will receive a raffle ticket! See the messenger for more details.
