McGilvra Elementary School

The sun came out and the Winter Olympic “water” sports were a blast.

Ms. Lee in training with Ms. McShane.  Ms. Lee’s favorite part of the day was playing a game with Ms. McShane in the principal’s office.

Celebrate McGilvra Night  – June 10^th, McGilvra play court; 5:30-8:00

One of our most enjoyable end-of year evenings is Celebrate McGilvra Night.   First, there’s a great potluck on the play court that all families are invited to contribute to and partake in.  Then, the school is opened to view the Art work and examples of student academic work will be displayed in halls and classrooms throughout the building.  At the end the evening, the 4th and 5th grade student musicians will be perform an instrumental music concert in the gym.

Field Day – June 18, time TBD

Students will be taking part in an afternoon of physical challenges, created and supervised by our graduating 5th graders. Parents are welcome to join in fun by having a barbecue lunch with your child and helping (or just cheering) during field day.

End of School Assembly and 5th Grade Graduation – McGilvra Gym; morning

This special assembly is to celebrate the passage of our 5th graders from elementary to middle school, to recognize their accomplishments and the accomplishments of others over the course of this year.

Volunteer Appreciation Tea – Library:  normally held late in the school day.

We honor our volunteers at this special event held in the library.  There are scrumptious sweets and drawing for prizes as we are entertained by the McGilvra students.  Each class takes turns parading into the library and presenting the parent volunteers with a surprise of song, poetry or thoughtful words.  Students love seeing their parents in the volunteer audience.

Spring Concert  – TOPS elementary; May 27, evening

Our Spring Concert is traditionally held at TOPS Elementary large gym.  Ms. Sur works hard with all grades, and especially with the advanced fourth and fifth grade choir.  This is a school favorite and one not to be missed!

Annual Fund Donor Party – Barrio Capitol Hill; May 2, 4:00 – 7:00 pm

Parents who donate to the Annual Fund are invited to a fun parent-only party at a local establishment in Madison Park hosted by the PTA.

McGilvra Auction – Garfield Community Center ; evening of March 13, 2010

Mark your calendars for the McGilvra School Auction on March 13, 2010 at Garfield Community Center .  Our auction is held bi-annually and is always an anticipated event.   This auction is sure to be an exciting evening with good food, good drinks, good friends and amazing items to bid on!
